Succulents are any plant with thick fleshy tissues adapted to water storage. There are many thousands of different species. In our collection we have 395 species of the 1,032 we are currently planning to obtain.
Distribution and habitats
The Mediterranean climate is the most favorable climate for succulents. The long-lasting drought as well as a rainy period during the year give them a marked advantage over non-succulents. They succeed thanks to their metabolism with Crassulacean acids which allow them to make gas exchanges for photosynthesis during the night. This prevents them from losing water during the day.
